I had a wonderful time volunteering at the harvest festival. In the beginning, we took part in
a prayer and listened to the mayor of Chino Hills introduce the festivities of the harvest
festival. There were different carnival booth games that you could volunteer at but I decided
to volunteer at the catch a rubber duck booth. I was there with a couple of friends at the
booth and we helped families and children grab their prize that they won. Seeing families
win prizes and be so enthusiastic about it brought me back to my childhood. After the
volunteer session was over, I enjoyed the rest of the night riding rides and eating delicious
Filipino food.

It was a fantastic opportunity to take part in the LA AIDS Walk Key Club event. I walked with
more than a hundred volunteers to raise money and awareness for HIV/AIDS. After that, I got
an Uber with four pals to Shake Shack, where we had a fantastic dinner. The kindness of
nearby companies made the day even better because I was given freebies that added
interest to the event and allowed my friends and I to check out what each booth had to
offer. This occasion demonstrated Key Clubs' dedication to improving the lives of those
impacted by HIV/AIDS.

The LA aids walk was really fun and entertaining. Walking around and seeing all the people
and the workers was really interesting. I learned a lot about STDS, such as aids. We ate lunch
at Shake shack and it was really good. I brought a volleyball and playing with my friends was
fun. All the people I met were super nice and I felt really comfortable being around all these
people. I got a lot of exercise but it was pretty hot so I got sweaty and tired. Overall though,
being with friends and meeting new people was really good and was definitely worth my
Sunday.

Dog Toy Making Event+
September DCM

I had a lot of fun participating in the dog toy making event. This event was also the monthly
dcm where we received updates from the division. We were told to bring old, used t-shirts to
cut up into strips and make into dog toys. There were different methods you could do to
make these dog toys and I chose to braid the strips of clothes together.  I learned a
new skill and relaxed under the shade of a tree. Utilizing old t-shirts is a great way to recycle
and create sustainable toys, providing an eco-friendly alternative to buying new items for
dogs in need.

Homeless Bag Making collab w/ Montclair KC

image.png

It was a rewarding experience to take part in the Homeless Bag Event in Ayala Park in collaboration
with Montclair High School. I got the opportunity to interact with remarkable people who all shared the
goal to help the community. I was able to put my creativity on display when we put together care
packages for the homeless, filling the bags with encouraging and reassuring messages. The
partnership with the students from Montclair High School went smoothly since we got along well. The
spontaneous game of tag that broke out among us helped to make the day even more memorable.
We became closer while running around Ayala Park and the refreshing drinks to end off the day was
a bonus.

Ayala Club Rush

Ayala High School's Club Rush event was a ton of fun! As we banded together to spread the word
about Club Rush to a large number of interested students, it was a busy day packed with enthusiasm
and energy. We had terrific attendance for club rush because of our contagious excitement.
Additionally, we created an eye-catching booth to creatively display the benefits of joining Key Club,
and we talked to other students about our interests to persuade them to join. It was enjoyable to see
their genuine curiosity and excitement in the various clubs that were offered. To sweeten the deal, we
gave away Otter Pops and candies, which satisfied their sweet craving while also spreading word
about the upcoming Six Flags Fall Rally.

The Concert on the Lawn was a blast! We prepped popcorn, burgers, nachos, and hot dogs for the families there. Prepping for each wave of customers with all the volunteers there was an experience in itself. I’m looking forward to more events and more bonding!

In May, I attended the D15W/S banquet. It was a lot of fun, as I got to meet new people and I was able to eat delicious food. Members and officers were recognized for their hard work this past year. Additionally, new division officers were formally elected. Everyone was dressed in a semi-formal manner to match the "spring" vibe. Overall, this was an exciting and new experience for me!

Binding Together is an event in collaboration with Operation Smile Club. After researching the reason behind these bracelets, I knew I wanted to help out and contribute anyway I can. The bracelets are used to raise money for research and for children who are born with cleft lip or cleft palate worldwide whose parents do not have the funds to have a safe surgical procedure done. After watching the video on how to make the bracelets, I decided to make beaded bracelets instead of the string bracelets. I had some friends come with me to two local hobby stores and shop for the materials I needed. They helped me sort the materials and I then spent four days and over 11 hours making bracelets. I made 40 bracelets in different colors, beads, patterns and phrases. This was the first time making bracelets and although I was slow, it was all handmade with care. This project really inspired me to look into contributing aid in other countries.

Fall Rally

The Fall Rally was very fun. We went to about 7 rides and surprisingly it was pretty relaxing for me. I thought my feet were going to hurt but they didn’t hurt that much since I sat down a good amount during the rally. The group I went with was so much fun! At the theatre where they held the rally, they were almost about to skip us and when they finally went to us at the end, I was so tired and had little to no energy. However, I pulled through and I believe that we were one of the loudest divisions! The food voucher was a pretty good deal in my opinion because it was all you can eat and it had some ‘healthy’ options. I was about to reach for the ice cream sandwich but I decided to pick the healthier option so I would have enough energy for the rest of the night! Overall, I had such a fun time at Fall Rally; however, leaving the amusement park was such a bittersweet moment for me as I realized that this was my last Fall Rally ever.

Harvest Festival

The American food shift from 6-8 pm was fun with Elijah. I fried the fries and he moved the burger patties. I was kinda iffy about my fries job since I never really fried stuff before. I learned a cool trick though. When you fry stuff, the potato is cooked when it floats on the oil. I also burned my hands a little bit. The shift was really fun since cooking food was really entertaining and since Elijah was there, I had someone to talk to. Priyasha was there as well but she was taking orders so I didn’t really talk to her.

Harvest Festival

During October, I volunteered at the Harvest Festival colorama booth! At this event, members helped run the game booth by collecting money from customers, picking up the balls thrown, and handing out prizes. To play the game, customers had to throw small, white balls onto the game board. In order to win a prize, one of the balls needed to land on the colored holes (pink, purple, blue, and yellow). Your prize choices were based on the color of the hole your ball fell into. The prizes were different sized and colored stuffed animals, such as koalas, dogs, rams, horses, fish, and unicorns!

Drive for Hope

This month I participated in the Drive for Hope event which was a collaboration with Project Unity. This was a very fun opportunity because I got to meet new members at Ayala Key Club. It was also very exciting since this was my first in person event since quarantine. At this event, I simply had to organize and sort the items that were donated for families in need. This included clothing, school supplies and hygiene products. It felt so great to start doing events like this again. Knowing that I was able to help the community in some way, really warms my heart. Even though it was something so little, just having the idea that I was able to make someone's day, makes it all worth it. It was such an amazing experience and I would definitely help out at the HOPE Family Resource Center again.

Ayala Football Games

During the month of September, I volunteered at the Ayala football game on September 10th against Los Osos High School! At the game, I worked at the food concession stand with two other Key Club members, where we gave out snacks and drinks. Almost all of the chips, candy, soda, and water provided were sold out by the end of the night. Every snack and drink was a dollar, except the Gatorade, which was 3 dollars! Ayala spirit shirts were also available for purchase, and customers had the choice of paying with cash or Venmo. It was exciting working with and getting to know other members while selling food to those who attended the game.

Fall Rally

Key Club’s Fall Rally was on the 13th this year for the Southern California region. This annual event benefits the Cali-Nev-Ha program foundation for the Pediatric Trauma Program. Thousands of members gathered at Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park for the rally. This was the first time that I got to attend the Fall Rally and it was incredible to see that this one event brought together so many people to support the Pediatric Trauma Program. When we all gathered in the Golden Bear Theater, the entire place was filled with Key Club spirit and chanting and it was so motivational. We met two other groups of students from different schools and hung out with them in the park and at the picnic. I will always remember this amazing event because it was so inspirational and motivational for everyone who attended. I met so many people from other schools and it was a great time. This was an event that really showed what Key Club Spirit really means.

Eagle Canyon Festival

The Eagle Canyon Festival was fun. I worked with Chris (right side), who I used to play highschool soccer with. I was in charge of the obstacle course and it was pretty fun. I just let kids go in two at a time after the kids before it finished. There was this one kid that stayed in the middle of the obstacle course so I had to come in the course and take him out. The kids were relatively well behaved but I think me and Chris got the hardest event to run. People I meet there were Evan Shin, Ethan Nguyen, Chris Udo, and Angelo.

Harvest Festival

Volunteering at the American Food Booth at the Harvest Festival was definitely one of my favorite events I have ever helped out at so far! I met other Key Clubbers and bonded with them over making burgers, hot dogs, pizzas, chili cheese fries, and much more. It was very fast paced, but the three hours went by so fast since it was pretty fun! This experience also showed me how hard it would be to work at a Fast Food restaurant. I would love to work this booth again in the future!

Region 13 Night Market

This October I participated in a key club event called Region 13 Night Market where key club members from different divisions meet and make new friends. By selling merchandise such as T-shirts, hoodies, stickers, hats, pins, and etc., all the proceeds goes toward the Pediatric Trauma Program. At the night market, many different divisions sold food and drink items such as milk tea with boba, chicken Alfredo fettuccine pasta, churros, Korean corn dogs, popcorn chicken, and etc. We also participated and held a pre-fall rally, learning our cheers and creating memories with other Key Clubbers from different divisions. The event was a really fun experience and I hope we do this event again sometime!
